Nordic walking

Nordic walking was developed in Scandinavia by cross country athletes as a way to train in summer. Over the past several years it has become popular throughout the world. Suitable for all ages, it’s an easy sport to practice, offering significant physical benefits. It’s the perfect way to stay in shape and have some fun outdoors, far from city stress. In the area of Passo San Pellegrino, itineraries for every level wind along trails, high mountain pastures, jutting rocks and Dolomite peaks: which one to choose?

    Tour of Tastes and Thrills

    This is an easy excursion accessible to everyone, even children. It’s an open tour that includes some tasty stops in the lodges around the Falcade-Passo San Pellegrino area, where tourists receive a house welcome.     Col Margherita - Lago Cavia - Passo San Pellegrino

    From the arrival of the funicular take the small road that twists and turns downward in the direction of the wide forcella Pradazzo (2220 m) which you reach in about 30 minutes; it soon descends to Cavia Lake (2102 m – 5h 45) and the dam that forms it; follow the dam and at the end take the path marked sentiero 658 (follow the signs for Passo San Pellegrino), which follows the lake for a while and then goes up to nearby Forcella Caserette (2120 m); at the fork you leave the trail indicated as sentiero dell’Alta Via dei Pastori and continue on the 658 that goes up through thick forests and sparse fields to a rock face at an altitude of about 2200 m where Passo di San Pellegrino reappears; it goes down slightly at first, then much more steeply (in this stretch the trail markings disappear) until you come to a wide ski slope and just beyond that a forest road where the trail markings reappear (2095 m – 6h 30). This steep, narrow road goes to the valley station of the Col Margherita funicular (1890 m) and from here it’s a short walk along the state road or through pastures to go back to Passo San Pellegrino.

    This route is also easy for children. From the arrival of the Costabella chairlift go to Baita Paradiso, the perfect place to stop for a pleasant, tasty rest. Then go straight on towards Val Tegnosa and after about 40 minutes come to the road that goes to Fuchiade. Here, walking among beautiful and characteristic barn structures called tabià; it’s an easy walk back to Passo San Pellegrino.
