|In Falcade it is time to “desmontegar” –come down from the mountain, so to speak, and celebrate the animals coming back to the village after having spent the entire summer in the highland pastures of the splendid Valle del Biois. The party will last the entire weekend of the 25-26-27 September, but the most anticipated moment will take place on Saturday morning, when a long procession of cows, calves, goats, sheep, donkeys and horses will be imaginatively and ornately decorated with flowers and garlands, and paraded along the main streets in Falcade by farmers and their families dressed in traditional clothing. These are three richly evocative days that will feature yummy tastings of specialties and music from the local scene, for an event that offers visitors a chance to discover one of the most ancient and significant rituals of mountain life. It’s a unique occasion to indulge in a short holiday at one of the most beautiful places in the Dolomites, which light up with magical colours in autumn. There are lots of collateral activities planned during the event, from an artisans market to stands featuring books and sweets, from the mountain dairy cheese festival scheduled on Sunday, to the tasty “Se Desmonteghea” menus offered by the valley’s restaurants, a veritable journey through the tastes of typical local products.|
