La VolatA slope has been confirmed as the location for the speed races in this prestigious event for promising skiers under 20, which will take place in Val di Fassa from February 18th to the 27th.
The project to bring the slope up to FIS Alpine World Cup Tour standards has almost been completed, including an expansion of the upper part from an elevation of da quota 2500 a quota 2200 metri, widening the arrival area near the valley station for the Col Margherita cable car lift and the installation of permanent safety netting in order to insure the athletes’ protection.
Moreover, the entire slope has already been cabled with fiber optics that can read any type of timing device and will make television shots easier, much to the delight of the director Sandro de Manicor, who is head of international production for FIS Alpine Ski World races. He first scouted the location with staff from the San Pellegrino Ski Area in the beginning of September.
This is an important achievement for the San Pellegrino Ski Area; in association with the project called «Piste Azzurre», this resort has already hosted the Italian National Alpine Ski team for many years as they’ve trained for major competitions throughout the season.
As we look forward to the 2019 FIS Junior Alpine Skiing World Championships from December 18th to the 21st, 2017, the La VolatA slope will host two downhill races in the Women’s European Cup: it’s an important event in international Alpine skiing that will bring together lots of skiing champions and fans against the splendid background of Passo San Pellegrino.
