Saturday, November 30th and Sunday, December 1st , the “Inside 4 Safe & Ride Weekend” event will open the new snow season. The Col Margherita cable car lift and the Passo chairlift will be open.
There are only a few days to go until the official opening of the 2013/2014 winter season. At Passo San Pellegrino everything’s ready to welcome snow lovers with thrills and fun. And what better way to open the new season than with a major event on the snow? It’s all happening thanks to the staff at Skiers Empire and the people who work at the Passo who put so much commitment and passion into organizing the “Inside 4 Safe & Ride Weekend”. The fourth edition of the event will take place near the Col Margherita cable car lift on Saturday, November 30th and Sunday, December 1st.
The program is part of an important joint initiative aimed at raising awareness of the conditions faced in freeride skiing. Sponsors of the event will be the newly formed “Progetto Icaro” Association (which works to introduce young people to freeride skiing in a safe way, focusing on education instead of just the “don’ts”) and the time-tested Mystic Freeride organization (which organizes safety classes for off-piste skiing). This because prevention and knowledge of the mountains are important fundamentals for young freeriders.
Saturday will be organized as follows: at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. riders will ski with Alpine Guides from “Progetto Icaro” and afterward they can study essential themes with the staff at the Mystic Freeride Safety Camp. Registration can be effected in loco (or by contacting email@example.com). The courses are free for kids under 21 and cost €15 for everyone else; proceeds will be donated to the “Progetto Icaro” Association.
On Sunday things will continue with free equipment test drives, and upon request Saturday’s program will be repeated.
This is much more than an event. On Saturday, November 30th, and Sunday December 1st, all skiers are invited up to the pass for the first ski runs of the season. The cable car lift serving the spectacular slopes of the Col Margherita and the Passo chairlift serving the ski school slope for beginners (and everyone else) will be open and operating.
“We’re ready, our staff has done an exceptional job, especially considering the snow that fell last week; we managed to prepare the slopes, there are about 60 cm of snow base at the Passo and 100-150 at the summit,” explains ski area manager Renzo Minella. “Plus, with the low temperatures of the last few days we’ve also fired up our snow cannons for programmed artificial snow. We’ll be open on Saturday and Sunday, then we will open even more areas for the official season kick off on Friday, December 6th. Following tradition, the weekend of December the 8th will be the first important indicator for the Christmas season, one of the most important periods in winter when we want to guarantee the best conditions. Here at Passo San Pellegrino we’ll also be hosting a very important international sports and media event, the Universiadi,” continues Minella. “In fact, the Passo slopes will host the speed, downhill and superG races scheduled for the 13th ,14th and 15th December; one more reason to get our slopes into perfect shape as soon as we can!”
